Association Prévention Routière, France

Rewarded for its highly innovative way of helping municipalities implement their own tailor-made road safety actions and its ambition to create a nationwide network.

date:  18/07/2018

The “Ville Prudente” initiative recognises French municipalities that have taken concrete steps to make their roads safer and cut back on traffic accidents and fatalities. It does so with a road sign – or ‘label’ – that ranks their efforts from one to five following an evaluation.

The initiative makes clear that successful road safety actions are a joint effort by policymakers, enforcement authorities and road users. It also stresses the need to protect the most vulnerable in urban areas, including pedestrians, cyclists, children and those with reduced mobility. An awards ceremony is planned for late 2018.
