The European Commission open a public consultation on the 'European Democracy Shield'. The European Democracy Shield will address the increasing threats to democratic institutions, systems and processes within the EU and the context in which they operate, both at national and EU level, which, compounded, contribute to the overall decrease of citizens’ trust in democracy, and will build on the work already done under the European Democracy Action Plan and the Defence of Democracy Package.
Call for evidence: Anti-Racism Strategy (06/05/2025)
The European Commission is preparing the first comprehensive strategy to address racism and contribute to a society free from racial discrimination. This initiative will build upon the anti-racism action plan that expires at the end of 2025.
Call for Evidence and Open Public Consultation: LGBTIQ equality strategy (10/04/2025)
The European Commission launched the Call for Evidence and Open Public Consultation on the new LGBTIQ equality strategy. The consultation is available on the Have Your Say Portal until 24 June 2025. Contributions from citizens, public authorities, CSOs, and the private sector to help identify areas requiring further EU-level action.

5 May 2025 - The European Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, joined in celebrating 250 years of Jewish life in Sweden at the Grand Synagogue of Stockholm, in the presence of HRH King Carl XVI Gustaf and HRH Queen Silvia. Paideia, the European Institute for Jewish Studies, supported by the European Commission, celebrated 25 years and Ms. von Schnurbein addressed Faculty, alumni and students that came together on this occasion.

Commissioner Brunner meets delegation of Conference of European Rabbis (07/03/2025)
25 February 2025 - Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, met with Chief Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, President of the Conference of European Rabbis (CER), to discuss about the Jewish community's concerns about security of Jewish people in the EU, combating antisemitism and strengthening Jewish life, issues related to internal security and interfaith relations. The CER delegation also met with the Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life a day before.
Launch of FRA’s annual civic space consultation (05/03/2025)
FRA invites views from all civic society organisations working in an EU Member State or in Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia or at the EU level for its annual civic space consultation.
The consultation aims to capture the experience of civil society regarding the challenges they face in their day-to-day work, as well as gather suggestions on possible ways forward.

NOA Publishes Guidelines for Fostering Jewish Life for Municipalities and Communities (07/03/2025)
The Network Overcoming Antisemitism (NOA) published on 5 March 2025 Guidelines for Fostering Jewish Life for Municipalities and Communities. The guidelines were created to facilitate the work of cities and municipalities in their dialogue with local Jewish communities and institutions. They aim to help support and promote Jewish life, heritage and culture throughout Europe.

UNESCO publishes guides for journalists on understanding antisemitism, Holocaust and hate speech (22/01/2025)
UNESCO has published two guides for journalists on 'Understanding antisemitism and Holocaust denial and distortion' and on 'Covering hate speech'. This project had been funded by the European Commission as part of an indirect grant to conduct trainings for journalists and media on Holocaust distortion, and to produce a guide for journalists.

20 January 2025 - Katharina von Schnurbein, Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, took part in the Zikaron BaSalon initiative - Remembrance in the Living Room - and opened her home to listen to the testimony of Hon. Mala Tribich, MBE, in the presence of young and old, representatives of EU institutions and embassies, family and friends. Mala told her story as a Holocaust Survivor of the Ravensbrück camp and liberated at Bergen-Belsen.
Commission attends International conference on Holocaust memory by Memorial de la Shoah (20/01/2025)
14 January 2025 - The Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, Katharina von Schnurbein, gave an opening address at the Memorial de la Shoah International Conference ahead of the Holocaust Remembrance Day marking 80 years since the liberation of Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in the presence of Serge and Beate Klarsfeld, longstanding champions of the fight against antisemitism and hatred, against Holocaust distortion and denial and the obfuscation of the history of WWII.

From 13 to 15 November, EC Coordinator Katharina von Schnurbein payed a country visit to visited Serbia, met with representatives of the government, the Jewish community, NGOs and attended a discussion on combating online antisemitism at Europe House event. The Coordinator started her visit at the Memorial Centre Staro Sajmište, a former Nazi concentration camp, to pay tribute to the victims and honour their memory.

Training Belgian teachers to address antisemitism in the classroom (15/11/2024)
As part of the 2 years project funded under Erasmus+, UNESCO and ODIHR trained over 70 educators from the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles on 4-5 November. This seminar strengthened their capacity to counter antisemitism in the classroom. The program focused on recognising antisemitism in all its forms, responding effectively to antisemitic incidents, and developing innovative pedagogical strategies for teaching about the Holocaust. Coordinator for combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, Katharina von Schnurbein, held the opening speech of the training emphasising the important role of educators in the fight against antisemitism. Dr. Pascale Falek, Policy Officer at the European Commission, delivered the closing remarks.
Adoption of the First Progress Report on the implementation of the EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life (14/10/2024)
Brussels, 14 Oct 2024 - Today, the Commission has published its first progress report on the 2021-2030 EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life. The progress report shows that in line with the EU strategy, most Member States have taken action against antisemitism since 2021.

As part of the 6th Meeting of the Working Group on the Implementation of the EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism, the European Commission, in collaboration with the Hungarian Presidency, organised a commemorative ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the deportation of Hungarian Jews. The event took place on 25 September at the Holocaust Memorial Center in Budapest.
International conference on addressing antisemitism, intolerance and discrimination (02/10/2024)
Katharina von Schnurbein, the European Commission Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism, participated in a panel discussion on Monday, 30 September, at the launch of the International Conference on Addressing Antisemitism, Intolerance, and Discrimination. She noted the continuous importance of education and the need for a clear protocol in every school in case of antisemitic incident.
On 4-5 September, the Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism, Katharina von Schnurbein, attended the workshop “Working Together to Count Antisemitism: A Global Human Rights Challenge" at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
Rosh Hashanah reception at the European Parliament (10/09/2024)
Full house at the Rosh Hashanah reception in the European Parliament organised by the European Jewish Community Center and the European Jewish Association on 9 September. Katharina von Schnurbein, EC Coordinator for combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, spoke about the need to continue to foster Jewish life and expressed her hope that all remaining hostages may be released soon. Rosh Hashanah falls on 2 October this year.

Conference "Never again? Democracy cannot tolerate antisemitism" in Vienna (10/09/2024)
On 10-11 September 2024, the President of the Austrian National Parliament, Wolfgang Sobotka hosted a plenary session at the Parliament to discuss "Never again? Democracy cannot tolerate antisemitism". The event was joined by the Speakers of the Canadian Parliament and the Belgian Federal Parliament as well as deputies from over 20 countries, Jewish community representatives and experts.
