A New Legal Information System in the German Administration

Creating a central portal by autumn 2025

date:  11/09/2023

"The German legal system is complex with its multitude of laws, ordinances and court decisions. The “NeuRIS” project is the first step towards gradually reducing this complexity. The project comprises two main elements: a government-owned data collection and storage system and a legal information portal accessible to the public.

The development phase started in April 2022. The objective is to create a central portal by autumn 2025 that will replace the current federal-level portals. This new portal aims to better serve the needs of various stakeholders, including civil society, legal professionals, academia, legal technology companies, and publishers, among others.
