Legal Drafting in the Era of AI and Digitisation: Enhancing Quality and Efficiency (03/06/2024)
On 8 March 2024, the LEOS team had the privilege of attending JIAMCATT, an annual conference that unites a vibrant community of linguists from over 90 international organisations who are at the forefront of Computer-Assisted Translation and Terminology. This year, held in Paris and hosted by UNESCO, the conference centred on the ‘next kid on the block’—Artificial Intelligence (AI)—and its implications for the translation profession. A key question emerged: Is AI a threat or a treat?
Overview of smart functionalities in drafting legislation in LEOS (03/06/2024)
The LEOS team is happy to announce the publication of a detailed description of the results of an EU-funded study entitled “Overview of smart functionalities in drafting legislation in LEOS”.
The research was conducted by the Hellenic OCR Team under an eight-month long study contract from June 2023 to February 2024.
The work draws on the results of a 2022 study on “Drafting legislation in the era of AI and digitisation”, referred to as the reference study, and provides solid input on the possible further development of LEOS (Legislative Editing Open Source) toward an "augmented LEOS" capable of effectively supporting existing legal processes at EC level, while exploiting state-of-the-art technology.
LEOS team looking back at 2022, it is not an end but the basis of a new beginning (16/03/2023)
The year 2022 has brought a lot of new developments for the LEOS team and we are happy to share them with you.
We are also extremely pleased to announce that the financing for LEOS for 2023 and 2024 is secured. This new financing will come with an even stronger embrace of ‘open source’ (LEOS is on code.europa.eu), a nearer involvement of Member States and more piloting.
In 2022 we intensified our efforts in collaborating with the Member States and piloting LEOS in the Commission, we finalised the reporting on a study exploring the use of AI in drafting legislation and we migrated LEOS to a code development platform for open source projects. Finally, some of our partners will testify about their contributions and use of LEOS.
A new partner, the European Data Protection Board, has in no time created their own templates, developed a document export and user management features. Additionally, our well-known partner Spain will also share their experiences. We are eager to hear from both of them.
Ample time will be set aside for Q&A.
