Upgrade to Toolkit 8.x

Projects currently using Drupal 9 or migrating to Drupal 9 should use Toolkit 8.x. However, due to unexpected issues in the upgrade to Toolkit 8.x, Drupal 8 projects should continue in Toolkit 4.x. Drupal 7 projects should upgrade as soon as possible to a newer version of Drupal (8 or 9) before 1 December 2022. After that date no deployments will be possible for Drupal 7 sites.

date:  13/10/2021

As announced on the newsletter of 14 September, the main changes in Toolkit 8.x include:

  • New target Toolkit: test-phpunit
  • Performance improved with Composer 2 running by default in the CI/CD
  • Compatible with Drupal >9.2
  • Requires PHP 7.3 or higher

How to update from Toolkit 4.x to Toolkit 8.x

To update the Toolkit to version 8.x, a regular “composer require --dev ec-europa/toolkit:^8.2” instruction is enough, although some issues can pop up depending on your project. For example, the file grumphp.yml must be updated to support the newer version of phpro/grumphp.

In case of issues during the upgrade, please create a ticket on the Onboarding support Jira board.
