End of life of PHP versions lower than 7.3

All development teams should proceed as soon as possible with the code alignment of their Drupal websites to PHP7.3.

In particular:

  • Websites NOT included in the Next Europa platform upgrade 2.6 rollout planning should upgrade to PHP 7.3 to avoid issues at the end of May (see key dates heading below).
  • Websites included in the Next Europa platform upgrade 2.6 rollout planning should upgrade to PHP 7.3 as the deployment of the platform upgrade on their site can only start if the code is fully compatible. All sites will be upgraded before 30 April and afterwards any site not properly upgraded will be converted into a static HTML.

Key dates

From 1 March:

  • it will not be possible to deliver code that is not compatible with PHP7.3
  • all sites not affected by the platform upgrade 2.6 will have a blocking step for validation of usage of the proper PHP version but developers will be able to bypass this step as previously (see how to bypass)

From 31 May:

  • support for any PHP version lower than 7.3 will be dropped
  • any deployment done on sites not using PHP 7.3 or a more recent version will be blocked
  • the access to Docker images provided by DevOps team for unsupported versions will be dropped
