The Black Pearl building is the European Commission flagship project on new office design and digital workplace designed together by the Office for Infrastructure and Logistics in Brussels (OIB) and DG Informatics (DIGIT). Belliard 28 (B-28) stays the second DIGIT building; it will undergo transformation to the new office design during 2017.

The move marks a new start for DIGIT, which undergoes an important reorganisation at the same time. In this context, DIGIT will experiment with a balanced mix of mobile devices and unified communication tools to support real-time collaboration, voice and video calls in the office and on the go. Classical telephony and standard PCs will no longer be part of the digital workplace.

Gertrud Ingestad, Director-General of DIGIT, said: "We believe that the digital workplace in combination with the new office design will increase staff engagement, motivation and productivity through collaboration, knowledge sharing, access the right information at the right moment, working efficiently from the best suitable place (office, home, on the go)."
