RAN POL Information sharing (Athens, 28-29 November)

The topic discussed is often considered difficult and tedious.

date:  12/12/2019

With a group of 26 people from across Europe, participants tackled difficult subjects and challenged each other to think in terms of solutions.

Thanks to an excellent presentation on the legislative framework by Dr Sebastian Schulenberg from the Senate for Justice and Constitutional Affairs in Bremen, police participants were able to approach the topic of legislation in a new way: no longer viewing legislation as a barrier to information sharing.

For instance, they should learn how the EU Privacy Directive can be translated into national legislation to enable and legitimise information sharing. participants were convinced that cooperation agreements are not enough to ensure information sharing; there is a need, and a possibility, for adopting this in national law and thereby creating a legal basis for information sharing.
