Civil Society Empowerment Programme Campaigns Event #2 (Dublin, 18 19 November)

What next in the world of P/CVE and online campaigning?

date:  12/12/2019

At the start of the year, 12 projects were launched at the first CSEP Campaigns event in Brussels. Now at the end of 2019, there are 20 projects utilising the positive power and tremendous reach of the internet to provide effective alternatives to messages coming from violent extremists and terrorists, as well as ideas countering extremist and terrorist propaganda. Following the first CSEP event, organised in January, the CSEP Campaigns Event #2 catered to the needs of the beneficiaries of all the 20 projects.

In Dublin, representatives of 18 CSEP-funded projects learned, shared and exchanged experiences in setting up effective campaigns. A diverse group of P/CVE online campaigning experts from ESCN, Facebook, the Centre for Analysis of Radical Right, Moonshot CVE, RAN C&N, Twitter and the Zinc Network provided participants with the latest insights into online campaigning.

The results and lessons learned, as well as 10 key insights, will be outlined in an ex post paper. For instance, it is important for communication professionals to always work with representatives from chosen target groups before launching a campaign. Representatives can help answer important questions like who influences them, how they are influenced, what messages are most appealing to them and through what medium they communicate best. This will also help understand whether the call-to-action facilitates behaviour change, and consequently has impact.
