Over the past three weeks in Brussels, the EU Knowledge Hub has successfully launched its Thematic Panels with a series of full-day meetings, which concluded on 11 April. Each panel delved into their specific topic, guided by presentations from leading experts, insightful interventions from panel members, and dynamic breakout discussions. The interactive setting fostered rich exchanges and laid the groundwork for the panels’ work over the next two years.

With an average of 30 carefully selected members per panel — chosen through a competitive process — and two coleaders at the helm, the panels are set to become key contributors in the field of radicalisation prevention. Their mandate is not only to explore critical themes but also to provide actionable recommendations to support policy developments at European level and in Member States.

The launch meetings were marked by high levels of engagement and forward-looking discussions, effectively guided by the panels’ coleaders, who will steer the panels’ work. Their leadership is supported by both the European Commission and a dedicated Secretariat, which plays an important role in facilitating the panels’ activities. Comprising specialists from a consortium of ten European organisations led by NTU International, the Secretariat provides support in shaping and moderating discussions, drafting key outputs, and ensuring the smooth organisation of events. This combined expertise ensures that both the content and execution of the panels' activities are of the highest quality.

This strong start sets the stage for a productive journey ahead. Through collaborative, expert-led work, they will make a valuable contribution to shaping the EU’s efforts to prevent and counter radicalisation. The panels will reconvene three more times this year.
