The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union will come to an end on 31 December. In the domain of Justice and Home Affairs, the Spanish Presidency has focused on enhancing the area of freedom, security and justice.
The Attorney General of Colombia, Mr Francisco Barbosa, visited Eurojust today to discuss stepping up cross-border judicial cooperation with EU Member States through the Agency. A particular focus was on enhancing cooperation to combat the sharp increase in illicit drug and wildlife trafficking from Colombia to the EU.
Eurojust and the Attorney General of Nigeria, Mr Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, signed on 9 November a Working Arrangement to enable structured and closer cooperation in the fight against organised crime groups.
The U.S. Department of State has announced that it will provide USD 1 million to the International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine (ICPA), established at Eurojust.
Eurojust welcomes this financial contribution, which will support the ICPA’s ongoing work to build the strongest possible cases for future prosecution of the crime of aggression committed in Ukraine.
On 4 December, Mr Ladislav Hamran informed the EU’s Justice and Home Affairs Council on the latest developments at Eurojust on working towards accountability for Russian war crimes in Ukraine. Ministers were updated on the state of play of the Joint Investigation Team’s work the International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine as well as on the Core International Crimes Evidence Database.
Mr José Luis Ferreira Trindade has been appointed Eurojust National Member for Portugal as of 8 November 2023. He replaces Mr António Cluny who has been the National Member since 2014. Mr Ferreira Trindade has been serving as Deputy National Member for Portugal since September 2020.
