Web Intelligence Network blog post on findings from their work on exploring new data sources

Led by a consortium of 10 partners, 8 of which are National Statistical Institutes and two regional statistical authorities, Web Intelligence Network (WIN) - Work Package 3 (WP3) is exploring new web data sources for integration into the WIH. The project seeks to address a number of challenges, such as data source instability and data processing. The project aims to improve statistical methodologies and data-driven decision-making. This blog post discusses the progress made on WIN-WP 3 activities during the project's second year.

A blog post from the Web Intelligence Network (WIN) project delves into the findings from its research into new data sources and next steps in its work.

The WIN explores web data sources and how to possibly integrate them into the WIH.

The project is structured around six use cases, such as the real estate market and the business register quality enhancement.

For each of the use cases, WIN partners explore potential web data sources, their quality and its necessary improvements, with a view to eventually producing web-sourced experimental statistics.

In their research work, the project teams seek to overcome various challenges, including issues with extracting relevant variables and data processing and problems with information availability and consistency over time due to structural changes to the websites and their content. Insights and updates from the exploratory work are shared through dedicated blogs on social media and Eurostat's CROS portal.

This WIN blog post sheds light on the progress achieved during the second project year. The partners have been actively involved in exploring new web data sources, programming and software production. As the next step, the partners plan to proceed with data acquisition, processing, modelling and interpretation for the explored use cases.

If you are interested in the WIN project’s specific findings, you can explore the ‘Blog’ section of Eurostat’s CROS portal, which hosts insights from UC1 (Characteristics of the real estate market), UC2 (Construction activities), UC4 (Experimental indices in tourism statistics) and UC5 (Business register quality enhancement).
