The fifth annual meeting of the high-level political dialogue on energy between the European Union and Algeria was held in Brussels on 5 October 2023 under the co-chairmanship of the Commissioner for Energy of the Commission of the European Union, Ms Kadri Simson and the Minister for Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab. They discussed ways and means of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of energy.

Report shows EU security of energy supply measures make a difference
|
|
Security of gas supply in Europe has improved in the last years thanks to successful measures by the EU and its Member States, according to a new report published by the European Commission. Imports of Russian gas have greatly decreased in line with the REPowerEU objectives, thanks to diversification efforts and savings. EU underground storage facilities are filled at well over 90% of their capacity as the heating season starts.

The European Union has achieved an unprecedented energy shift since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, thanks in part to the implementation of a wide range of policy measures at EU and Member State level. In a report published on 28 September, the Commission reviews the functioning of the so-called ‘Solidarity Regulation’, adopted last December, as part of the emergency framework.
