European Labour Market Barometer: positive outlook for the first time since summer 2023

In March, the European Labour Market Barometer gained 0.6 points compared with the previous month. The labour market leading indicator of the European Network of Public Employment Services and the IAB stood at 100.3 points, returning to positive territory for the first time since July 2023. The European barometer’s employment component improved, rising by 0.4 points to 101.7 points. The outlook therefore continues to be generally positive. The component that predicts unemployment went up by 0.7 points compared with the previous month. However, it remained in negative territory at 98.9 points. “The European Public Employment Services expect employment to increase more markedly again in the coming months, with only a slight rise in unemployment figures,” reports Enzo Weber, IAB head of forecast.
