About the European Capitals of Small Retail awards

The European Capitals of Small Retail (ECoSR) awards initiative identifies cities that have achieved remarkable results in supporting small retailers and maintaining vibrant city centres. The awards celebrate the success stories of cities that have fostered effective and innovative approaches to small retail revitalisation, the sector's digital and green transitions, as well as entrepreneurial support and community engagement.

The European Capitals of Small Retail is a European Union initiative proposed as a Preparatory Action by the European Parliament, based on a citizen's petition and is implemented by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) on behalf of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW).
