EU-India leaders' meeting via video conference: Main results

Only ten months after the last EU-India Virtual summit, in July 2020, high representatives of both regions gathered in a virtual meeting on the 8 of May to discuss the next steps to follow in our strengthened cooperation.

In this meeting, the EU was represented by the heads of state or government of the 27 EU member states, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, gathered in Porto.

India was represented by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who joined EU leaders via video conference.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, also participated in the meeting.

At the end of the meeting the leaders adopted a comprehensive joint statement were they reflected upon follow up actions, including a stronger harmonisation of Geographical Indications between both regions.
