The Horizon 2020 project EMPOWERING supported 85 municipalities in six EU regions to develop Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP) in the framework of the Covenant of Mayors initiative.

Urban district heating networks can work more efficiently and save energy, thanks to innovations developed under the Horizon 2020 programme. The H-DisNet project has demonstrated new thermo-chemical fluid networks that reduce thermal losses while transporting and storing heat.
