The Council approved conclusions on a sustainable blue economy, which is based on four pillars: healthy oceans, knowledge, prosperity and social equity. The conclusions underline the need for an efficient ocean governance built on a sustainable blue economy

 
Does Interreg Maritime Cooperation matter?

As part of a "Maritime Roadshow", Interact released a series of videos showcasing how organisations and people across Europe have cooperated to tackle a variety of maritime challenges, with support of the Interreg Programme. 5 regional videos are already available, including one on South-West Europe.

 
EU Strategy on Offshore Renewable Energy

To help meet the EU's goal of climate neutrality by 2050, the European Commission today presents the EU Strategy on Offshore Renewable Energy. The Strategy proposes to increase Europe's offshore wind capacity from its current level of 12 GW to at least 60 GW by 2030 and to 300 GW by 2050. The Commission aims to complement this with 40 GW of ocean energy and other emerging technologies such as floating wind and solar by 2050.

 
Report highlights strong positive impact of the EIC on the innovation community

The latest report focusing on the results and impacts of the EIC Pilot (2018 – 2020) is out now. The report documents progress against a set of Key Performance Indicators, such as on projects supporting Sustainable Development Goals (over 90 percent), the amount of follow up investments in EIC supported companies (€5.3 billion) and progress in supporting female innovators.

 
Mission Starfish 2030: Restore our Ocean and Waters

Inspired by the shape of the starfish, the Mission has five overarching objectives for 2030: Filling the knowledge and emotional gap, regenerating marine and freshwater ecosystems, zero pollution, decarbonising our ocean, and waters revamping governance. These five objectives are mutually supportive and taken together, the Mission Starfish 2030 will enable the restoration of the water cycle as a whole.

 
The EU Blue Economy Report 2020

This year's edition of the Blue Economy report goes beyond looking at the economic performance of marine activities. The report highlights the need to preserve marine ecosystems to optimise potential benefits of ecosystem services and marine and maritime economic sectors. With this aim, the European Commission is investing in research, innovation and education to create a brighter blue future, even and particularly during this difficult period.
