Greenwashing: call for enhanced supervision and improved market practice

The increased offer of sustainable options to consumers brings a risk of greenwashing when financial service providers misleadingly portray themselves and/or their products as more sustainable than they truly are. In its Greenwashing report, EIOPA sets out key proposals aimed at enhancing the supervision of greenwashing and at improving the sustainable finance regulatory framework.

Joint ESAs Opinion on the assessment of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR)

In this opinion, the three European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, EIOPA and ESMA – ESAs) call for a coherent sustainable finance framework that caters for both the green transition and enhanced consumer protection, taking into account the lessons learned from the functioning of the SFDR.
