State of the Union: Ursula von der Leyen maps a European future

In her State of the Union address on 13 September 2023, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen acknowledged that Europe’s hottest summer on record is a stark reminder of the ‘reality of a boiling planet’. She put the spotlight on the European industry and its role in the green transition, citing examples such as the first container ship powered by clean methanol made with solar energy.
