Andrew Awuah Wireko, Ghana

date:  02/03/2023

Andrew is a young climate activist and medical student from Ghana living in Ukraine. His work focuses on engaging with health professionals and vulnerable communities on climate action activities that are tailored to local context, challenges and needs. As a Pact Ambassador, he joined a virtual discussion with European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans about how to engage young people in climate action. He believes youth engagement has improved dramatically in recent years.

“Young people are the next generation of leaders who can fuel efforts to reduce the climate crisis. But most people in health academia – medical students, doctors and professors – think climate action movements are primarily for those in the environmental and political sectors. I realised I had to get them involved! So I started locally in Sumy, where I live, and hope to spread the momentum to other major cities in Ukraine.”
