Alice Casiraghi is the co-founder and design strategist at Future Urban Living, where she helps companies design ways to turn the transition to the circular economy into a competitive advantage. She is also actively involved in proposing solutions to the Milanese municipality to make the city greener and less car-focused. Alice organised a 6-month long youth project to design solutions for a city with cleaner air in her hometown.
“People can be encouraged to walk and cycle more if they feel safe on the road and if the cycle lanes are a primary feature of the city’s master plan, rather than being a by-product of motor vehicle lanes. We should help people realise that in cities, cycling is often the fastest way to get around, especially during peak hours.
I hope and believe cities will put the interaction between humans and nature in the spotlight; designing better paths for both pedestrians and bikes using a more diverse range of materials than just concrete – materials that are not engineered for cars, but for people.”
