Jure Ausec, Slovenia

date:  30/09/2021

Jure Ausec is a science teacher who educates his students about the importance of biodiversity and reducing pollution, and wants to include more climate-related issues in his teaching. He also started the #brezavta campaign (“without a car” in Slovenian), through which he inspires people to cycle, showing that owning a car isn’t necessary for daily commutes.

Cities are much easier for transportation than rural areas. Using your bicycle or taking public transportation is easier to do in a city than in the countryside. I believe that we can reduce the need for long commutes (to workplaces, shops, or services close to residential areas) so that many routes can be taken on foot or by bike.

The current situation is unbearable and far from sustainable, so we will need to make some radical changes to the way we use transportation.
