Ambassadors visit flood-hit Paiporta
Fourteen Climate Pact Ambassadors gathered for an event in Paiporta, Spain – one of the towns hardest hit by the 2024 DANA floods – to help turn local experience into lessons for future resilience. The programme combined roundtables with a climate walk to explore what happened, what was learned and what needs to change to prepare for future extreme weather events.

Led by Ambassador Carmen Marqués Ruiz, the discussions brought together mayors from the affected towns, scientists, civil society groups and residents. Participants spoke about the strength of the community response during the crisis – and the importance of listening to local experience in shaping more resilient systems.
In the afternoon, Ambassador Natascha Wahlberg Macías led a walk along the Barranco del Poyo river, stopping at flood-affected sites and a monument listing the 70 local towns impacted.

Students learn how to tackle climate misinformation
In Wissembourg, France, Climate Pact Ambassador Philippe Merkling teamed up with agro-climatologist Serge Zaka to help high school students recognise and respond to climate misinformation.
The workshop brought together 80 students to see how misleading content spreads on social media and discuss ways to talk about climate change with classmates, friends and family.
The students led a climate-themed escape game and recorded an interview with Serge Zaka – a chance to practise asking informed questions and presenting climate topics on camera.
The session sparked genuine curiosity, with a number of students asking how they can pursue careers in climate science. These initiatives present an opportunity to equip the next generation with the skills and confidence to engage with climate issues – not just in the classroom, but in everyday life.

Past meets future: A climate walk through Athens’ ancient aqueduct
In March, five Climate Pact Ambassadors led a climate walk in Chalandri, Athens, tracing the route of Hadrian’s Aqueduct – a historic Roman water system that offered a powerful backdrop for discussing today’s climate challenges.
Around 50 participants joined the walk, which sparked conversations about how to manage water more sustainably, improve public spaces and draw on cultural heritage to inspire local climate solutions. Topics ranged from urban regeneration and nature-based design to participatory planning and citizen-led innovation.
By using the walk to connect local history with community dialogue, the event showed how shared public spaces can be used as starting points for climate conversations and community-led change.

Help shape the future of Europe’s bioeconomy
The European Commission has launched a public consultation to update the EU Bioeconomy Strategy – a key part of Europe’s green and circular economy plans.
This strategy focuses on using renewable natural resources – like crops, forests, algae and organic waste – to produce food, materials and energy in more sustainable ways. It supports climate goals by helping reduce emissions, protect biodiversity and boost local innovation.
Now is your chance to share your perspective. Whether you’re an individual, a policymaker or part of a community initiative, your input can help shape how Europe manages these resources – from sustainable farming and bio-based materials to greener energy and nature-based solutions.
