Villa Franca de Xira Municipality, Portugal

Climate Challenges: Floods; excessive heat; droughts; fires; rising sea level

Technical Assistance Support: Our Technical Assistance began in March 2024 with the ‘Lasting Values’ support. We started at RAST step 5, and have almost completed the Type 1 support - moving from risk assessment to the development of adaptation pathways. We are planning to move on to the other types of assistance, with a focus on citizen engagement.

date:  26/06/2024

Outcome: We are only beginning our Technical Assistance programme, but we hope to gain more knowledge in implementing projects that we consider important in the climate change adaptation plan and also new financing or funding sources. We also have high hopes for Technical Assistance aimed at citizens, because our region will hold a Citizens' Assembly in October 2024 and so it will be an asset to add this assistance to the event.

Testimonial: A great motivation to apply was knowing the Technical Assistance would be in Portuguese and that we would be able to benefit much more from it. The application process was very simple, all you had to do was fill in a form with questions that referred to the type of assistance desired by the municipality.
