Cement company, HeidelbergCement AG, has joined the EU Climate Pact and pledged to become net-zero by 2050. The company aims to invest in sustainable and decarbonised products, increase its use of alternative raw materials and operate the world’s first carbon-neutral cement production plant in Slite, Sweden by 2030. In 2020, the company invested in piloting alternative materials such as swapping clinker – a material produced by heating limestone and clay to 1400+°C – for recycled concrete. Its climate credentials feature in a new CDP report on corporate climate ambition in Europe.
