The European Commission has introduced OceanEye, a new initiative to boost the EU’s role in ocean observation and data, with the goal of contributing 35% of the global ocean observing system by 2035. Key actions include improving coordination across countries, developing the European Digital Ocean System and the Digital Twin of the Ocean, and increasing skills and awareness. The initiative also aims to reduce gaps and duplication in data collection while aligning investments across Member States and stakeholders.
