Europe investing €300.5 million in clean hydrogen technologies

date: 24/02/2022
Recognising the important role hydrogen will play in the medium to long term in achieving the EU climate neutrality goals by 2050, the European Commission will contribute to the Partnership up to €1 billion euro for the period 2021-2027, a budget almost 55% higher than the one of FCH 2 JU (previously €646 million). This amount will be complemented by at least an equivalent amount of investments from the private members of the JU, raising up the total contribution to a minimum of €2 billion euro.
How will this budget be dispersed over the next 7 years? Funding opportunities will be distributed relatively even, with an increased expenditure in the first year as foreseen in AWP 2022, with the first Call for proposals having an overall indicative budget of 300.5 million euros, covering a wide spectrum of research and innovation activities along the entire technology readiness scale.
Additional support is expected from a number of other EU Partnerships and Programmes. End-use partnerships in the areas of road transport, train, maritime, aviation, clean steel and clean process industries, in collaboration with the Clean Hydrogen JU, will also support hydrogen applications, as they consider hydrogen as a key tool to achieve their climate objectives.
