What is the Mission Soil?

The Mission Soil is an instrument funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe. It aims to create 100 living labs (places for on-the-ground experiments) and lighthouses (sites for showcasing good practices) to lead the transition towards healthy soils in rural and urban areas by 2030. The Mission will also implement an ambitious research and innovation programme, promote harmonised soil monitoring in the EU, and increase public awareness and engagement in soil protection and restoration.

The Mission Implementation Plan has integrated these targets into four cross-cutting operational objectives, which will be carried out through the following activities grouped under "building blocks":
