Optimising land use planning (study)

The Commission will carry out in 2023 a study on competition for land use and sustainable farming and provide a sound and comprehensive analysis of the main impacts of sectoral developments on land use in the EU’s rural areas.

The overall aim of the study is to provide a sound and comprehensive analysis of the main impacts of sectoral developments (agricultural, forestry, energy, nature conservation, urban sprawl, climate action, mining, etc.) on land use in the EU’s rural areas and to identify recommendations to foster the optimal development of land use planning to promote sustainable farming and other economic activities.

The study will include an overall analysis of the evolution on land use at the European level with its historical evolution, current state of play and prospects.
