Improving Slovenia’s organic production capacity

Organically bred sheep and goats can help preserve the landscape and biodiversity in areas such as Slovenia’s Sava Hills, where Rural Development Programme (RDP) funds have been successfully used to support the growth of an organic meat business through investment in a slaughtering facility.

This RDP project resulted in the beneficiary being able to provide quality organic food for local consumers and increase the size of the farm’s organic herd, thereby also improving the potential for livestock grazing to contribute to habitat conservation. Other useful outcomes of the RDP investment include an increase in consumer awareness about the availability of local organic products.
