Infringement cases in the EU

If Member States fail to properly apply EU law, the Commission may launch infringement procedures. The main purpose of an infringement procedure is to ensure that Member States comply with EU law in the general interest. The infringement procedures therefore focus on systemic issues affecting many people or businesses. In isolated instances of wrongful application of EU law, issues may be best addressed via the national redress system.
