b-solutions: the 10 successful cases announced

Following the chronogram agreed in the grant signed on December 2017 by DG Regio and AEBR, the b-solutions call for proposals was open between 1 February and 30 April 2018. 36 proposals were submitted and 31 were found eligible.

The Selection Committee performed a quality assessment of the applications received, ranking them according to the “criteria for the selection” listed in the call for proposals at page 12. The Committee’s evaluation report has been shared with the European Commission for a final approval on the successful cases.

The 10 awarded cases are: 

  1. Bilingualism in the Functional Tri-Border Region AT-HU-SK
  2. Elaboration of a cooperation protocol aimed at simplifying administrative procedures for frontier workers in the field of  health insurance
  3. Lithuanian Geological Survey and Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre institutional cooperation on cross-border groundwater management
  4. GeoConnectGR
  5. CrossMarkets - Institutional cooperation to enhance cross-border selling at local farmers’ markets
  6. When EMS (emergency medical system) erase borders
  7. Facilitating cross-border mobility within the scope of dual education in the Eurometropolis Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai
  8. XBORDER – WORK: tacking administrative issues that hinder free movement of workers
  9. Roadmap & factsheet for the recognition of qualifications for highly demanded professions: two practical documents for first line support and citizens
  10. EGTC GO Cross-border Public Urban Mobility Pan

It is good to see the initial idea of the call now translated into ten very concrete projects, with real people behind them :-)

Here in DG REGIO we very much look forward to cooperating with the 10 project teams and to explore the complex world of cross-border legal obstacles.

In the meantime, the Commission has put on the table of Council and Parliament a draft regulation that offers a mechanism to resolve such obstacles - we cannot wait to see whether the existence of such a mechanism could resolve the 10 issues selected.  We will hopefully have the opportunity to explore and study this in the coming months.

In the meantime, well done to the successful applicants and good luck with the implementation of the projects.

The AEBR colleauges have done a good job so far - and I know that they will be keen to continue to accompany the process or to provide information to anyone interest in this.

It has been a pleasure to look at the AEBR Team at the Berlin Projects Office managing the call, communicating with the applicants, and then with the panel of external experts. A very fluid communication as well with the Border Focal Point at DG Regio has made possible further exchange and learning in order to fit to the expected chronogram. Now the cases have been selected and they will begin very soon to implement their pilot actions. We will keep on posting on any development in this platform, and wish the pilots to do so!
