While it is good practice to benchmark the European approach to Artificial Intelligence in relation to the other players in this field, there is good reason to reinforce awareness of the assets Europe can build upon. Taking this perspective, we suggest to name some of these building blocks for a European Intelligent Economy Infrastructure as follows, hoping to contribute to its shaping.

  • Digital Technology for Manufacturing, High Performance Computing, Human Brain Project: Paving the way for massive computing, telecommunication and robotics
  • Circular Economy, Industrial Shared Data Spaces: Enabling sustainable production of goods and services while saving natural resources and utilizing data as novel resource
  • General Data Protection Regulation, Ethical Guidelines for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence: Restraining the dissolution of human privacy and dignity, neither through social media nor through social scoring
  • European SME backbone, Engineering Skills Base: Letting innovation emerge by making use of the socio-economic assets in place around Europe

Apparently, this is not an exhaustive list. Our purpose here is just to point out we should focus upon doing it the European way, for which a remarkable set of assets are already existing.
