The purpose of this study is to analyse the road accessibility during the 1960-2010 period in the border regions of Portugal, France and Spain. Generally, border regions are found to be less accessible than other regions because of their peripheral location. However, the article shows that, throughout the timeframe under analysis, border regions in these three countries reduced their accessibility gap with regard to both the national average and the development of cross-border connections.
