In the era of fake news and alternative facts, media literacy is becoming more and more important.

Slovene children, too, have trouble judging the credibility of information which they do not receive from traditional sources of information, such as television and newspaper. Instead, they get information from social media, eg. Snapchat, Instagram and You Tube.

Thus, a textbook on media literacy was created. In it, we explained the key terminology and concepts, eg. media, news, social media, blogs, fake news and advertisments.

The textbook will be presented at a round table discussion on media literacy with media literary experts aimed at interested general public, in particular teachers and headmasters of the schools.

The discussion is planned as an introduction to a short series of media literacy workshops for teachers from different Slovenian regions that will enable them to use the textbook on their own in the classroom.
