Green light for the mutual recognition of the level of higher education qualifications in the Benelux countries

The Benelux Ministers of Higher Education approved on January 25th in Brussels a decision extending the principle of automatic recognition of the levels of diplomas and degrees at all levels of higher education in the Benelux countries. This decision complements a decision signed in 2015, which applied to master's and bachelor's degrees. Our young people in the Central Border Region between N Ireland and Republic of Ireland are already preoccupied with issues of higher education qulaification and mutual recognition - and the associated impacts on cross border employability arising. The prospect of full Brexit in 2019 only serves to deepen this preoccupation and concern. The collaboration in Benelux offers hope and inspiration for shared solutions that could also be realised in our own Region in the future.

Congratulations to the Benelux for this pioneering, trust-based approach !

I was at the official signing last night, and I heard that this is only the beginning - the 3 countries are determined to expand this and to cover other types of degrees, diplomas, skills in the future, which is really heartening.

Hope other feel that they can get inspirtion from this to seek specific solutions between neighbours.
