Standardisation

There is a broad consensus in Austria, that most norms and standards need to be addressed on the international level via ISO and IEC respectively. This helps European companies in their internationalisation endeavours and strengthens European technologies.

In this context, European support is seen important to have a strong European representation in the international standardisation bodies.

Yet privacy/data protection has been identifies as the one topic where standardisation issues should be lifted to the European level. This is being seen in the context of the EU Data Protection Regulation, where specific knowledge in Europe is available.

A focus on data protection/privacy could be used to generate new business based on the specific know-how in the careful handling of data.
