The series of events organized by the Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ) continues with a 1-day media literacy workshop for high school students in Buzau, Romania - "Media Education and Culture Lab". The workshop will be delivered by Cristina Jamschek - Program Manager of CIJ.

The workshop will focus on three main subjects:

a) information and media landscape

b) fake news, disinformation, misinformation and propaganda

c) digital footprint

The worshop is part of a national approach to media literacy in formal education, started by CIJ in 2017 and developed in partnership with the Romanian-American Foundation - "Teaching Media Literacy!". The program provides teachers and students alike with instruments of critical thinking and a clear understanding of the role of media and technology in a democratic society, by infusing elements of media literacy in the daily teaching, allowing teachers to constantly expose their students to a way of thinking and a manner of acting (rather than just a set of reproducible information), helping them navigate the wealth of information available, sort, prioritize and assess the credibility of information.

Our project's ultimate goal is to endow the young adults with the critical thinking that would allow them to appreciate and respect the role of the media in a democratic society, but also to connect and interact with their communities in a mindful way.
