The “decision trees” are educational tools to help promote the students’ critical thinking, fostering a reflective attitude when handling specific problems related to the use of the Internet.

These resources help the reader tackles the following four problems: cyberbullying, sextortion, online contacts management and the exposure to inappropriate information. This will enable students to think before sharing a message or an image.

Each topic provides the students and teachers with the following:

• A decision tree. It is a visual resource that contains a series of questions with possible answers. So that, in a specific case, a path can be traced all through the tree, discovering possible guidelines and useful options for each case These resources have been developed in the framework of Safer Internet Programme of the European Commission through the INSAFE network.
• A worksheet with methodology guidelines. They are fitted with two case scenarios and various complementary activities such as debates, creative group tasks or internet research tasks. Its main purpose is to provide further activities to deal with the topic in class and to show the students how to ask for help in the event of online problems. Internet Segura for Kids has developed/created this complement for the decision trees application on the didactic session development in class.

Los árboles de decisiones se plantean como herramientas educativas para ayudar a fomentar la capacidad crítica del alumnado, promoviendo una actitud reflexiva a la hora de afrontar determinados problemas relacionados con el uso de Internet.

Entre las temáticas de los árboles de decisión (que incluye también el ciberacoso, la sextorsión o la gestión de los amigos en Internet), se trabaja la exposición ante  información inapropiada, ayudando al alumnado a pensar antes de compartir un mensaje o una imagen:

Cada temática dispone de:

• Un árbol de decisión. Se trata de un recurso visual que contiene una serie de preguntas con sus posibles respuestas, de modo que ante un caso concreto se puede "trazar una ruta" a lo largo del árbol, descubriendo posibles pautas y opciones de utilidad para dicho caso. Estos recursos han sido desarrollados en el marco del Programa Safer Internet, de la Comisión Europea, a través de la red INSAFE.
• Una ficha de orientaciones didácticas. En ella se plantean dos situaciones de ejemplo y diversas actividades complementarias como debates, trabajos creativos en grupo o tareas de investigación en Internet. Su función es servir como complemento para tratar la temática en el aula y mostrar a los menores cómo pedir ayuda ante los problemas online. IS4K ha desarrollado este complemento para la aplicación de los árboles de decisión en el desarrollo de sesiones didácticas en clase.
