A few weeks ago, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development issued the first draft of a National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence. The document underwent public consultation until 13 September, and comments are now under review.

In our article, Roberto Volpe and I provide an overview of the Strategy’s main contents: its broader vision, its scope of action, and the financial allocation foreseen. On top of that, we try to identify some of the factors of change entailed by Italy’s shifting political and institutional context.
