The German insurance industry welcomes the work of the European Commission and the high level expert group on ethics guidelines for trustworthy AI. We believe these guidelines can make a valuable contribution towards the Commission’s goal of artificial intelligence “made in Europe”.

In the draft version of the guidelines, insurance premiums are named as one potential use case. In this context, we would like to provide additional background information on this use case and on how the ethics guidelines would interact with the regulatory framework applicable to us. This information is in addition to the feedback on the guidelines as a whole that we submitted during the official consultation process.
