Cross-border employment (i.e. workers commuting to work across the border) concerns 1.4 million workers in the EU. It still has some untapped potential with many benefits such as lower unemployment, better activity for enterprises and territorial cohesion. To do so, it is essential that employers understand and recognise qualifications and value the skills of cross-border workers. Several EU tools are already in place. However, they do not always meet the needs of cross-border commuters who live in one country and work in another, constantly crossing the border.
