This is a Policy Brief by industriAll European Trade Union, the European federation of trade unions in the manufacturing sectors (190 affiliates, 7 million members, across all industrial value chains: mining, energy, chemicals & pharmaceuticals, ICT, metalworking, automotive, aeronautics and transport equipment, textile, clothing and leather) and a member of the European Trade Union Confederation.

The aim of this Policy Brief is to reduce the concentration of wealth and power of monopolistic digital platforms, a concentration which detriments their industrial suppliers and society in general. The Policy Brief specifically proposes four concrete measures:

  1. the "big data is open data" principle
  2. the obligation to introduce "fair" search algorithms,
  3. the breaking up of cross-subsidisation structures, and
  4. the prevention of Unfair Trade Practices.
