Openness is a key toward the successful realization of IoT in practice - independent of the "user" is a single private person, an SME or a huge group. Like with Security, many people talk about openness (some may call it interoperability), many people see the need for and/or expect the existance of openness, but all find it hard to define or - even harder - to measure it. 

With the Code of PLM Openness (CPO) the ProSTEP iViP Association defined for the first time a standard criteria cataloge with regard to openness and currently prepares the next step toward a certification of Openness (first certificates expected in 04/2017). As seen as a key enabler for Industry 4.0, in 04/2016 the German Federal Ministery for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) therefore stated its patronage for the CPO. All next steps are consequenty driven forward together with the BMWi.

As the CPO is generic enough to serve in several contexts, is independent of national and branch interest, ProSTEP iViP already started related discussions with the Japanese Ministry for Economics, Trade and Industry (METI) and met the Japanese interests too.

Of course, ProSTEP iViP would be interested to discuss potential on the EU-level too. As a starting point for informing interested people we are glad to share the attached summary presentation via this portal.
