Arguably, MSO has contributed most to the recent remarkable success of mathematics in real life applications - much more to explore.

MSO (math modelling, simulation, optimisation) is a great platform, which first of all covers the strong rooting of applied and industrial mathematics in technical applications. It also us to integrate new interdisciplinary research on the interface to machine learning (data driven approaches), bioinformatics, neuro science etc .  

Recent reseach results - too many to list in detail - still need to be explored in terms of applicability for real life applications. And these applications constantly pose new mathematical challenges, which can be best described as MSO.
