The Digitising European Industry initiative aims to put in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure that every industry in Europe, in whichever sector, wherever situated, and no matter of what size can fully benefit from digital innovations. The initiative focuses on actions with a clear European value-added, including Digital Innovation Hubs, Digital Industrial Platforms, and Digital Skills. Here, we focus on the challenge of creating the next-generation digital platforms and using them to enable the digital ecosystems that will be vital for an increasing number of economic sectors

Various platform development activities exist at EU or national level. Projects developing the next-generation digital platforms need to bring together various EU and/or national programmes and act as linking pins. The European Commission expects to launch a number of projects in 2018-20 that will make a significant step forward in platform development, integration of relevant digital technologies such as IoT, AI, photonics, robotics, cloud and Big Data, interoperability between existing platforms, and validation via pilots and experimentation facilities. Starting from suitable reference architectures, these projects are expected to define platforms, validate them via piloting, support their roll-out via ecosystem building, and evolve them into standards. These projects need to build on existing platforms, pilot sites, testbeds, and experimental environments that have been developed in national or EU-wide activities, when applicable.

This questionnaire aims to collect information about existing or planned regional, national, or EU-wide programmes on platform development, large-scale piloting, and testbeds, so that links can be established in a later phase.

This questionnaire focuses on the following sectors/topics:

  • Connected Smart Factories
  • Smart Agriculture
  • Digital Transformation of Health and Care
  • Industrial Data Platforms
  • Internet of Things

Therefore, this questionnaire focuses on platforms, pilots, and testbeds in these sectors/topics.

More information about the background of this questionnaire is available in the background document, and is an extract from the second version of the Digitising European Industry WG2 report.

Target group(s)

All professionals with an insight in (national) activities in platform development, piloting, and/or testbeds are invited to contribute. Member State representatives in the Digitising European Industry working groups will be separately addressed.

How to submit your contribution

You may reply to this consultation online and you have the possibility to send inputs by email.

You may want to prepare your contribution in advance before filling-in the questionnaire online. We recommend you download the PDF file of the questionnaire, to allow you to draft your input to the open text questions. After preparing all your answers, please fill out the questionnaire.
