The Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) has decided to extend the deadline to participate in the public consultation on overcoming obstacles within internal border regions, as well as the borders between Member States and EFTA/EEA-countries.

The public consultation will now be open until 11 October 2020.

This decision comes due to multiple reasons. Mainly considering the difficulties cross-border institutions and commuters are facing across Europe in light of the ongoing pandemic and due to several requests to postpone the closing date recognising the overlap with the summer period.

With this extension, we want to provide equal opportunities to all border stakeholders and citizens to share their experiences and perspectives at such a crucial time for Europe and for border regions.

We ackowledge that the COVID-19 crisis has shown how deeply affected internal border regions can be, but at the same time, this crisis has revealed the diversity of cross-border regions and their dynamics, including the valuable contribution made by cross-border commuters and the positive outcomes of cooperation.

We count on your support in this important moment for border regions.

Many thanks
