Open, Disruptive, Direct and Instant Innovation - ODDI

Innovation is already used as a pathway to comercial success. The role innovation plays in improving the results of sucessful companies has been widely discussed and deeply analyzed. In today’s business markets Direct and Instant Innovation address the need for transforming ideas into value. Most importantly they define the paths needed to advance Research and Experimentation outcomes into Industry. In the Experimentation context, innovation's success is measured in terms of the adoption and exploitation of these outcomes. However, although Innovation has an economic-oriented element, the term "Innovation" can also be applied to many other areas in life such as reseach, knowledge generation, prototyping, design and idea generation, etc.

In general Open innovation is a paradigm that asserts that external and internal ideas should be exploited as firms look to advance their technology. Open innovation implies organisations are "innovating with partners by sharing risk and sharing reward." Consequently the boundaries between a firm and its environment become more permeable and innovations can easily transfer inward and outward. (Cited from Chesbrough, Henry William. Open Innovation: The new imperative for creating and profiting from technology. Boston: Harvard Business School Press. ISBN 978-1578518371.)

By adopting Open Innovation in the Next Generation Internet we address the market needs via transformation of current services and solutions rather than simply focussing on more money motivated objectives. The intention is to provide world-wide research and experimentation levels, matching those of current Industries, whilst also understanding and explaining the past, current and future models for Innovation.

A Next Generation Internet is required to have a new mind set; to be aware of Disciplined/Closed Innovation, Continuous Innovation, Open Innovation, Disruptive Innovation, Direct Innovation and Instant Innovation. A comprehensive program for integartion Innovation models in the NGI is desireable and open for discussion.
