Data from November 2013. Most recent data: Further Eurostat information, Main tables and Database. Planned article update: (dd) Month YYYY(, hh:00).

Tourism statistics are traditionally focusing on the accommodation sector on the one hand and the demand side (from a household perspective) on the other hand. The available tourism statistics relate mainly to physical flows: arrivals or nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments or trips made by residents of a country. This article presents economic data extracted from other areas of official statistics, in particular structural business statistics (SBS) and short-term business statistics (STS), in order to provide users with a better economic analysis of this sector that is an important motor for many countries' economies and labour market. However it should be pointed out that users are invited to carefully consult data sources and availability chapter before using the presented data in order to avoid overestimating the economic importance of tourism for some industries.
